History

The Devonport Historical and Museum Society Inc. was formed in 1977.

We currently have about a hundred members and a committee of 13.

We maintain and develop the Devonport Museum located on Cambria Reserve in Vauxhall Rd, Devonport. The Museum is housed in the old Presbyterian Church and was relocated from Church St in 1978.

The Museum today

We run several events a year to promote the Museum.

The Museum is staffed on a volunteer basis by local Community members and is open from 2pm - 4 pm on weekends. Admission is free, but a small donation would be appreciated.

We have a number of projects in development.

You may also like to visit the About volunteering and Becoming a member sections of this website.

We gratefully acknowledge the North Shore City Council for support given over the years.

Collection Policy

The Devonport Museum specialises in memorabilia pertaining to the history of Devonport. Other artefacts and material may be considered for inclusion in the collections.

Research at Devonport Museum

The Society receives many requests to carry out research. In the majority of cases this relates to family history and building location inquiries. Unfortunately we are not equipped to provide a comprehensive and detailed service for this type of request.

We can however make material available for research purposes, but this may not be removed from the Museum. Other museums charge for this service but we are prepared to undertake small tasks for a donation.
